Die Vlught
A scattering of farms and homesteads in the Baardskeerdersbos valley, a few kilometres from the village. Too small to show up on most maps. Worth knowing exists.

About the Town
Die Vlught is not a town. It is a name attached to a small cluster of farms and properties in the wider Baardskeerdersbos valley, tucked in the Overberg between Gansbaai and Bredasdorp. There is no village centre, no shop, no public facilities. The name appears on some maps and in local conversation but not in any official statistics that explain it clearly.
The surrounding landscape is classic Overberg: fynbos-covered slopes, cattle farms, flower farms turning into a carpet of colour in late winter and spring. The valley runs between the Perdekop ridge and the coastal plain, sheltered enough to feel different from the exposed Agulhas Plain a few kilometres south. It sits inside the same fynbos biome that makes Baardskeerdersbos distinctive.
The main settlement at Baardskeerdersbos is about 5 kilometres away by road and is where the church, the pub, and the small general dealer are. Die Vlught draws on those facilities or drives to Gansbaai for anything more substantial. The people who live here chose to live at the edge of that edge.
This is the Overberg before development pressure reached it. Unmarked gravel roads, no street lighting, farms that have run for generations. It is the kind of place you discover by going past Baardskeerdersbos to see what is further on.
